Why "Generic" Software Fails in the Saudi Market

von LoLIPink am 24.04.2026 10:01

Quick poll for the group: Is anyone using a big-name global ERP (like a basic Odoo or a generic accounting tool) for a construction firm in KSA? We're considering a move to digital, and my IT consultant is pushing a very famous global brand. However, my operations manager is worried that it won't handle the specific ways we do business here—like the specific local tax laws, labor laws, and the way we structure our BOQs (Bill of Quantities). Has anyone regretted going "too generic"? Or should I just stick with the big names because they are "safe"?

Don't fall for the "big name" trap! We tried a very famous international software three years ago, and it was a disaster. We spent more money on "customizing" it to fit Saudi regulations than we did on the actual license. It didn't understand ZATCA requirements out of the box, and the labor module was useless for Nitaqat tracking. I actually wish I had seen this article before we made that mistake https://thearabianpost.com/conquering-complexity-how-a-specialized-erp-for-ksa-s-construction-industry-drives-growth-and-compliance/  It breaks down exactly why specialized, localized systems are the way to go for the Saudi construction sector. A generic tool won't understand the complexity of our local compliance. Go with something that's built for the KSA market from day one; it will save you a fortune in consultancy fees later.
